The Seniors' section of PGC goes under the name of Dads' Army, and is well supported with over 100 members. Membership is open to male members of PGC aged 55 plus. Everyone is welcome regardless of playing handicap, and if you don't have a current handicap, we'll soon get you one. If you are thinking of joining PGC, and would also be interested in joining Dads' Army, please get in touch with our Chairman, Bob Porter (07845 277078), who will be happy to meet up with you at the Golf Club, show you round, and answer any questions you may have.
We run a variety of weekly competitions, taking place on Thursday mornings 07:30 - 10:00 throughout the year, and they attract an entry of up to 65 members. Through the Summer we play home and away matches with 11 other clubs. These are played in a friendly manner, and are rounded off with a meal in the clubhouse. All our members are invited to take part in these.
We have an annual "away day", usually in June, and try to choose a venue that we don't visit as part of other competitions. This year the venue is Heysham on 25th June. In addition to the weekly Thursday competitions, there are usually Dads' Army members playing on Monday and Tuesday mornings, where anyone can join in.
Dads' Army ethos is "to promote a happy fellowship of Senior Golfers" and we always willing to implement changes to improve our golfing lives. Recent changes we have implemented include: a 2-division format for most of our competitions; summer and winter leagues; and an "eclectic". Because most of Dads' Army membership are "poor" pensioners, we keep costs to a minimum. Annual membership is £3, and Thursday competitions are £2.
